Dolby was founded in London in 1965, now headquartered in San Francisco with offices around the globe. From movies and TV shows, to apps, music,sports and gaming, Dolby transforms the science of sight and sound into spectacular experiences for billions of people worldwide.

Now operating out of Soho Square, Dolby's EMEA Headquarters houses state-of-the-art audio equipment, testing rooms with hypersensitive acoustic flooring and meticulously organised cabling. The facility also houses a 60+ seater screening room to showcase their remarkable cutting-edge technology, as well as mixing an grading Hollywood movies.

Client challenge

Because of all of this specialist equipment, Dolby needed a total facilities management partner that could handle delicate, complex equipment, while ensuring minimal disruption to their day-to-day business. As well as this, the space had undergone major refurbishment work, which required staff to move to temporary accommodation whilst maintaining regulatory requirements and planned maintenance to continue the business' regular functions.

Active solution

Active was engaged to manage the facilities management services, and support Dolby through the planned refurbishments - creating a bespoke solution that covered all the needs of the company, including:

  • External & internal cleaning (including deep cleans to server rooms)
  • Resident full-time engineer on site to facilitate all maintenance
  • Specialist deep-cleaning of all air-handling units & installation of high-grade filters.
  • 24/7 help-desk facility to resolve any on-the-spot issues.

Statuory compliance checks, including:

  • Fire systems & supression
  • CCTV
  • Access Control
  • Intruder alarms
  • HVAC, boilers & pumps
  • BMS, UPS & PAT electrical testing
  • Speed gates
  • Water hygiene testing
  • Air quality testing

Benefits and results

Active have completed a number of projects in the first year of the contracts, including the teporary relocation of people and equipment duing the refurbishment works. This included appointed a dedicated Workplace Change Manager on-site, working closely with Dolby's main contractor to ensure maintenance works was scheduled & completed without disruption to the refurbishment.

A planned refurbishment of Dolby's roof garden was completed in March 2021, which was then opened for reoccupation in April. As well as all of the above, Active further enhanced the employee experience, providing fresh flowers, interior planters & arranged for delivery of fresh fruit, soft drinks & daily milk.
